It’s February (in 2 days)!!! That means we get to celebrate everything pink...yay! Pink is my favorite color and there are lots of wonderful foods that are pink… well they are really red but let’s just pretend they are pink 😉 Red foods have many key vitamins and nutrients including lycopene, ellagic acid, quercetin, hesperidin, fiber, vitamin A + vitamin C. Do you know what many of these nutrients have in common!? They have antioxidant function meaning that they are able to scavenge free radicles in the body to decrease oxidative damage, which ultimately means a decrease in some chronic disease states like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. So what red fruits and vegetables are you going to be eating this February to keep your body happy and healthy?? Continue Reading
Who’s ready for a little loco-cocoa this holiday season?! If you are anything like me you go a little loco for hot cocoa in the winter time. Hot cocoa is so yummy and so warm and its screams winter! After a long day on the ski hill or skating on the outdoor rink, all I want afterward is to sip a warm cup of cocoa. The only issue is… a lot of the store brand cocoa’s have a lot of sugar and additives. The good thing is that if you make your own all the ingredients are wholesome and can actually have some health benefits as well so you don’t have to feel guilty when drinking this delicious drink!
I have recently just started to drink chai tea and I don’t know what took me so long to try it!!!! It is so AMAZING. It is sweet + spicy and will warm you up from the inside out! This traditional Indian drink is full of amazing spices that all convey their own health benefits. All the spices having warming properties, which is exactly what you want when it comes to fall and winter!
With fall in full throttle there is still lots of time to make everything PUMPKIN SPICE! (Be prepared as I have a lot of pumpkin-inspired recipes coming your way these next few months 😛). This pumpkin smoothie is a wonderful way to start your morning! It is packed with tons of wholesome ingredients that will leave you feeling full and satisfied all morning long!!
Let’s start off fall right!! The air is getting crisper, the warm sweaters are coming out and you might just want to cuddle up on the couch with your favorite pumpkin spice recipes watching Netflix 😉. Don’t worry I understand that is just how fall works!!
This cinnamon + pumpkin vegan cream cheese is insane! It works well on so many things… my favorite being sweet potato toast but it is also great on waffles, toast, cake, cupcakes or on a spoon straight out of the container 😛.
Have you ever eaten something that reminds you of your childhood!?! This gooey peanut butter chew bar is one of my grandma’s old recipes that brings me way back to the simpler days! This recipe originally had lots of sugar and corn syrup (the things you don’t care about when you’re a kid 😉) but with a little modification and a lot of love it is full of healthier ingredients that can allow you to reminisce on your childhood but not get that sugar high 😛 Continue Reading
Zaaaaa! 🍕🍕🍕 Raise your hands if you think pizza should be its own food group!? Pizza has got the image of not being very healthy as it is loaded with ewwie-goowie cheese and all the toppings but that ain’t true! Pizza can be nutritious and delicious if you make it from scratch! And I know you’re like “Brit that sounds like soooo much work” but let me tell ya it’s actually so simple and so much better! Plus if you are gluten and dairy free like me finding a pizza that has both can be quite a challenge so making it at home is the perfect solution! Continue Reading
If you are anything like me nothing beats a good granola! Granola is so versatile, you can add to yogurt and berries and make a parfait, sprinkle on chia pudding, or heck just eat it straight out of the container if that tickles your fancy (don’t worry I won’t tell anyone 😉).
Chocolate, chocolate, chocolateeeee! Who doesn’t love this wonderful food?! I personally think it should be its own food group!!! During the holidays it can be difficult to avoid all these tasty foods so I thought why not make a little chocolate snack that can also have some health benefits to leave you feeling guilt-free!
Who doesn’t love everything pumpkin spice!? I mean if you don’t, I think you may be feeling a little under the weather! During the holiday season, it is so wonderful to be using so many warming spices like cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg to make you feel all happy inside. Continue Reading
